Proper consent not given for Origin fracking: traditional owners

News / Event start date

Traditional owners in the Northern Territory say Origin Energy did not properly consult them when seeking permission to drill for gas in the Beetaloo Basin, 500 kilometres south-east of Darwin.

The energy giant is under pressure at its annual general meeting in Sydney over its dealings with Aboriginal landowners, some of whom attended the meeting.

Concern is building over the integrity of the consultation process, as fracking is coming to the NT after the lifting of a moratorium.
